Writer's Block: School Ties

What is (or was) your college major? Do you use it for your career?

My major was studio art. I will use it for my career, since I want to illustrate my own books (and do my own cover/album art). Also, I really like to draw and set up photographs, and since the people hiring are just using the degree as a signaling thing/filter and it doesn't matter what degree you get (unless you're going to be a doctor), I figured I might as well get a degree in something I like.

Some people might think art degrees are useless, but I think I can at least find a use for the skills I learned getting it. And if I don't, I'm sure I'm smart enough to be able to do something else.

Bravo on getting a degree in something you love. I an incredibly jealous. Had I had my way when I was younger I would have gotten a degree studying English - fairly useless unless you are going to teach or be a Journlalist as far as I can tell. As I creep ever closer to forty, it becomes less and less likely that I ever will (unless I win the lotto). But, at 58 my mother has gone back to school, so I suppose anything can happen.
